Disney World Announces 'Frozen' Attraction Coming To Epcot
Disney World has officially announced that the Maelstrom attraction in the Epcot Norway Pavilion will be replaced with a 'Frozen' Themed Attraction. They also announced additional opportunities to meet & greet Anna and Elsa from Frozen in Epcot, as well as, a 'Frozen' themed lighting of Cinderella Castle starting in November to turn it into an ice palace.
Check out all of the 'Frozen' themed news reported from the Disney Parks Blog:
We’ve made “Frozen” a part of the guest experience in a number of ways already and our guests have both loved them and asked for more. So I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests. We think these “Frozen” elements are great complements to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.
“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”
We’re extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).
From the moment we screened the film several months before its release, we were inspired by the possibility of bringing this great story to life for our guests. Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! has been extremely popular, and now we’re looking forward to doing even more to allow our guests to experience the “Frozen” phenomenon.

Cinderella Castle Mosaics In The Magic Kingdom
One of the most impressive artistic details in the Walt Disney World Resort can be found in Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom. Within the main hall you will 5 spectacular 15 foot by 10 foot panels that tell the story of Cinderella in mosaic.
Cinderella Castle Mosaics
Disney Imagineer Dorthea Redmond created the design which was executed in mosaic by Hanns-Joachim Scharff. Taking 22 months to complete, the five scenes were recreated from the 1950 animated classic "Cinderella." In all there are over one million pieces of Italian glass in over 500 different colors. Besides the glass tiles there are silver tiles, and even some 14 carat gold tiles used in the murals.
Pictures Are Great. In Person Is Better.
Although "a picture may say a thousand words," you still can't get the full effect of seeing these massive mosaic marvels up close. The craftsmanship is remarkable. There are not enough superlatives to adequately describe these brilliant murals.
Hopefully you have enjoyed these pictures and will be inspired to see the real works of art when you visit the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.

The murals can be viewed by anyone walking through the main archway of the Cinderella Castle. You do not need to dine there or wait in line. They are easily accessible to the public. Many people avoid walking through the Castle itself since there is no attraction housed there and it serves only as a tunnel to get from the Main Street side of the central hub to Fantasyland. Seeing these unbelievable works of ark are well worth the effort to make sure you walk through the Castle.
The murals are so impressive at Disney World in Florida that Disney has recreated them for Tokyo Disneyland.
In an excerpt on the D23 website where Marty Sklar reflects upon the life and accomplishments of Dorthea Redmond:
"Now perhaps Dorothea will be best remembered for the Disneyland Dream Suite, originally designed for Walt himself," Marty adds. "But certainly her most admired design work is the elaborate mosaic murals of the Cinderella story in the entry passage to the Castle at the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. Not even the medieval castles of Europe can boast of masterpieces like these!"
If you look closely at the two step sisters, you can see that one has a red face to reflect anger, while the other has a slightly green face to indicate jealousy.

Iconic Views Of The Walt Disney World Resort
The Walt Disney World Resort is a photographer's dream. Even an amateur can come home with amazing photographs taken at Disney World.
Today we want to take a look at the most photographed features of each of the 4 Disney World theme parks. In each park, one structure is deemed the iconic figure. These icons receive the lion's share of attention and always garner photographic attention.
For each of the four icons we will chose a pose that you may not have in your collection, but still shows off the icon's good side.
Magic Kingdom - Cinderella's Castle
Cinderella's Castle not only is the icon for the Magic Kingdom, but it is also representative of all of Disney World. The castle has gone through numerous transformations throughout the years in an attempt to "dress it up" for one celebration or another. Despite the external changes, the iconic shape and silhouette that we all know and love remain.
The recent addition of over 200,000 LED lights to prepare it for the Christmas holidays creates a striking image.
Disney's Hollywood Studios - Sorceror Mickey's Hat
At Disney's Hollywood Studios resides probably the most controversial of the 4 park icons. Sorceror Mickey's Hat was not there at the beginning. The initial icon was actually the Earful Tower. The Mickey shaped water tower still resides in the park today, yet it was supplanted as the icon for the park in 2001.
The 122 foot high Sorceror Mickey's Hat dominates the view as you enter Hollywood Studios. Love it or hate it, Sorceror Mickey's Hat shows off its best side at night, which is when this particular picture was taken.
Epcot - Spaceship Earth
As you approach Epcot you can't help but notice Spaceship Earth. This imposing architectural feat soars 180 feet into the sky. This geodesic sphere serves as an iconic landmark and as home to an attraction.
Because of its enormous size, Spaceship Earth can be photographed from many different angles and locations. Whether you are entering the park or looking back from the World Showcase, the image of Spaceship earth can be found.
The picture chosen for today is an up close shot that dwarfs the moon in the sky.

Disney's Animal Kingdom - Tree Of Life
The Tree of Life in Disney's Animal Kingdom was a masterpiece of engineering design as well. Using part of an oil drilling rig to form its core, this 145 foot high man-made tree can withstand hurricane force winds.
The most amazing part of this icon is the detail that went into creating the 400 different animal carvings that are worked into the trunk, branches, and roots of the tree.
This is also the most difficult of the 4 icons to photograph. The reason goes hand in hand with the design and theme of the entire Animal Kingdom Park, which is meant to blend in and be in harmony with the surroundings instead of standing out. The Disney Imagineers have done a fabulous job of creating an icon that "stands out", yet appears perfectly at home with the surroundings.
The picture shown shows off some of the incredible detail that goes into the carvings on the Tree of Life.
Iconic Photography
During your next trip to the Walt Disney World Resort look capture more than just the standard photographs of the 4 park icons. Take the time to look a little closer at the amazing detail and stories that each of these icons present. If you do, you'll have beautiful photographs to treasure well beyond the time of your vacation.
