New Jungle Cruise Themed Restaurant Coming To The Magic Kingdom
There is a new Disney World Restaurant currently under construction in the Magic Kingdom. Later in 2015 the Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen restaurant will open in Adventureland.
At the Jungle Skipper Canteen, guests will be able to experience “World Famous Jungle Cuisine” in one of several unique dining rooms – including a crew mess hall and a once-hidden secret meeting room of the famed Society of Explorers and Adventurers. The restaurant will also be staffed by Jungle Cruise Skippers.
This highly themed restaurant will be a welcomed addition to the Magic Kingdom On the heels of the immensely successful Be Our Guest Restaurant, the Disney Imagineers will create an experience that Disney World guests will certainly enjoy.
We can't wait until it is finished!
A Pirate's Adventure - Treasures of the Seven Seas Is The New Magic Kingdom Interactive Activity
For those of you who can never get enough Pirate related adventures when visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, then you will definitely want to check out one of the newest interactive adventures that has been added to the Magic Kingdom.
You can find A Pirate's Adventure - Treasures of the Seven Seas located in the very back of Adventureland, past the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and on your way to the back of Frontierland. If you are not paying attention you can miss the building where you get signed up and start your adventure entirely! This can really be considered a Hidden Disney Secret!
Once you enter the hut, you will receive your instructions and be given a map and a magic talisman (card) that will help you unlock clues. There are 5 different adventures where you are assisting Captain Jack Sparrow discover the treasures before any other pirates can get it.
You use these map to work your way to help recover the treasure. It has some similarities to the old Kim Possible World Showcase Adventures and the more recent Agent P's World Showcase Adventures, but instead of the special cell phone, you have a card and a map, which work very well.
Each of the 5 different adventures takes about 20 minutes to complete as you are sent searching for clues in various parts of Adventureland. Each adventure has you look for around 4 to 5 clues. As you find the clue, you touch the magic talisman that you were given to the clue and something magical happens, each one is unique and different. At the end of the discovery, you receive your next clue.
The special effects are even better than what you see in the Epcot adventures and the fact that each adventure is fairly quick to play, makes it a nice diversion for a family to play together.
Add this FREE activity to the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and you have two great interactive activities that the whole family can play together and have fun. This is especially fun for families that have been to the Magic Kingdom before and looking for something new and different to do.
Disney World Famous Jungle Cruise Becomes "Jingle Cruise" For First Time Holiday Transformation
Visitors to the Walt Disney World Resort between now and the end of the year will have the opportunity to see one of their favorite attractions "dressed" up for the Holiday Season for the first time ever! The world famous Jungle Cruise, which has been part of the Magic Kingdom at Disney World since it opened in 1971 will receive its first ever makeover for the Holidays!
Guests will get not only get to see holiday touches added to the attractions, but the fearless Jungle Cruise skipper will also be adding some Holiday inspired humor to their normal repertoire of jokes and puns.
How many of you are excited to see these changes for the Holiday? Typically this Holiday makeover only happens at Disneyland, but this is big news that Disney World will also be participating in this makeover.
Fate Brings Changes To Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room
On January 12th, 2011 Fate stepped in to help bring about changes to The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) at the Walt Disney World Resort. A fire broke out in the attic of the attraction and the Iago audio-animatronic figure was severely damaged. Disney recently confirmed at the D23 Destination D: Walt Disney World 40TH Anniversary Conference that the attraction will be returning to its roots and changing the show to something more reminiscent of when the show was called Tropical Serenade.
The Enchanted Tiki Room History
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room was a landmark achievement when it first opened in Disneyland in 1963. This attraction became the first to utilize audio-animatronic characters. This pre-dated Disney's work with the well known Abraham Lincoln figure that made it's mark at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair.
In what was to originally be a dinner show attraction, it was decided during the design phase to drop the dining aspect and turn the show into it's own attraction for Disneyland.
When Disney World was built The Enchanted Tiki Room had to be part of the new Magic Kingdom. As an opening day attraction on October 1, 1971 it was almost identical to the Disneyland version, but received the name: Tropical Serenade.
This family friendly attraction included 88 singing audio-animatronic birds along with animated tikis, flowers, masks, and drummers.
In 1998, the Disney Imagineers attempted to "plus" the attraction by adding characters from then recent Disney Movies Aladdin and The Lion King. It was renamed The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management to reflect the changes to the show.
Current plans call for the new "old" show to return to the Magic Kingdom on August 15, 2011. It will be called The Enchanted Tiki Room. We are looking forward to the return of this "timeless" classic that relies less on current movie characters and more on good family entertainment.

The pre-show was also updated to set the stage for the show inside by having two bird agents argue about their bird being the big new star of the show.
Zazu from The Lion King
Iago from Aladdin voiced by Gilbert Gottfried.
The changes in the show really counted on the audience being familiar with the characters of Zazu and Iago. As time went on the show became dated and the shows became less and less crowded. Disney lost the "timeless" factor that makes many of their classic attractions fan favorites year after year.
After the fire the Disney Imagineers took the opportunity to listen to the Disney World fans and bring about changes to the show closer to the original version.

Exploring The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse
Many classic Disney Movies have inspired Disney World and Disneyland Attractions. "Swiss Family Robinson" has inspired an attraction that still stands tall (literally) today in the Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney Presents: "Swiss Family Robinson"
In 1960 Walt Disney Productions created "Swiss Family Robinson" which was loosely based upon the 1812 novel by Swiss Pastor Johann David Wyss. Johann Wyss set out to create a book that was teach his four sons about family values, good husbandry, the uses of the natural world and self-reliance. Wyss enjoyed the earlier book by Daniel DeFoe called "Robinson Crusoe", and used some of its castaway concepts as a way to add adventure to the setting for the lessons that he wanted to impart to his sons. His 4 real life sons translated into 4 sons in the book, but only 3 were seen in the movie version. The literal translation of the original book title is The Swiss Robinson.
The movie had several changes from the original novels, as movies tend to do, but much of the basic storyline was the same. The shooting of the film took place in tropical island of Tobago. It starred John Mills (real life father of Disney Star Hayley Mills) as the father, Dorothy McGuire as the mother, James MacArthur as oldest son Fritz Robinson, Tommy Kirk as middle son Ernst Robinson, & Kevin Corcoran as youngest son Francis Robinson.
Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse
The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse is one of the original Disney World attractions, opening at Disney World on October 1, 1971. This was the 2nd Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse to be built based upon the movie since Disneyland added their Treehouse in 1962, just 2 years after the movie was released.
Although it is just a walk through attraction is has been built in 4 of the Disney Parks worldwide. It was added to Disneyland Paris on April 12, 1992 and at Tokyo Disneyland on July 21, 1993.
The over 60 foot tall and 90 foot wide structure was based upon the one shown in the 1960 Disney movie. Throughout the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse you will find signs denoting the contents of the room and notes relating to what the Robinson family did there.
The views from the top of the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse are amazing. You get a great view of Cinderella Castle and Tomorrowland. This view is even more impressive at night!
Disney World Classic
The original Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse at Disneyland has been changed to become Tarzan's Treehouse, leaving the Magic Kingdom version as the longest standing Swiss Family Robinson version.
Although many of today's youth may not be familiar with the 1960 Disney Movie, Treehouses almost universally appeal to youth and the young at heart. The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse may not be an attraction that takes advantage of technology, but it still has elements that make it worthwhile for guests to visit and explore.
Like the universal appeal of Tom Sawyer's Island, the Treehouse appeals to the kid in all of us and beckons us to explore. Here your imagination takes over. The attraction is different for each guest, but as long as you give in to your childlike imagination, the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse will be relevant and a must do attraction each time you visit Disney World.

Treehouses appeal to the young and the young at heart. Whether you have seen the movie, which you should!, or not exploring the world's greatest Treehouse is always a thrill.
The engineer in me marvels at the ingenuity that was used by the Robinsons. I know it was a movie, but there were many interesting applications of engineering skills, whether it was for transporting water or just how the Disney Imagineers created the Tree itself.
Here is the little known Swiss Family Treehouse Shield!
For me, touring the tree house brings back the wonderful images of the movie. Although my children have seen the movie several times, they just love that fact that there is a giant treehouse to explore. You can see their minds thinking, "If this was MY treehouse..."

The Dole Whip: One Of Disney World's Most Loved Treats
The Dole Whip is one of those delectable treats that one instantly associates with Disney World.
For the uninitiated, a Dole Whip is a non-dairy, soft serve, frozen creation that is enjoyed served in a cup or with Pineapple juice as a float (as pictured here).
If you are craving a Dole Whip at Disney World you need to know where to go, because there are no signs or large billboards proclaiming that “Dole Whips are sold here” or “This way to the Dole Whips.”
There are two locations on the Disney World property where you can purchase a Dole Whip.
The first and most widely known is the Aloha Isle stand found in Adventureland of the Magic Kingdom.
The Aloha Isle is a small unassuming place nestled near the entrance to Adventureland. The Dole Whip doesn’t even get top billing on the menu board, but it is certainly what people come for.
The lesser known Dole Whip dispensary is Captain Cook’s at the Polynesian Resort. Here in low key fashion, you can dispense your own Dole Whip into a cup. No fanfare involved at all.
How can a frozen treat that is so well known and revered, get so little respect?
You can even purchase this snack above all snacks for only 1 Disney Dining Plan Snack credit.
The most dangerous part of the Dole Whip is the effect it has on you when you are home, hundreds or perhaps even thousands of miles from Disney World. This is when the craving hits and you find yourself longing for its pineapple goodness.
For the true fans there is some relief. You are able to now purchase the same dry mix that Disney World (and Disneyland) uses to make your own Dole Whips if you have a home ice cream machine. The company is Unified Enterprises Corp. and they are based in Hawaii. If you visit their website you can order the dry mix and have it shipped to your home. The shipping is not cheap, but some cravings will just not be tamed.
The World Famous Dole Whip
The Dole Whip is arguably the most famous food item sold at the Walt Disney World Resort. Some may have their personal favorites, but none can argue the fame and renowned status that the Dole Whip garners. If you don't believe it, try searching on Google for any of your Disney World favorites followed by a search for the Dole Whip. You will be amazed at the dedication that this non-dairy treat has acquired.
At the end of the day, if you haven't tried this famous treat you must! It is certainly refreshing and tasty, and then you too will know what everyone is raving about.
