Disney World Classic Attraction: Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room at the Walt Disney World Resort has origins that go back to 1963 when the original version of this attraction was added to Disneyland.  The Enchanted Tiki Room created quite a stir since it was the first attraction to feature the Disney invented Audio Animatronic figures.

Enchanted Tiki Room History
The original version of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disney World was called the Tropical Serenade and was one of the original attractions that was part of the opening day of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.  The attraction was a near identical copy of the popular Enchanted Tiki Room found at Disneyland.

After over 25 years of the same show, Disney Imagineers sought to "plus" the attraction and incorporate some current Disney Characters to invigorate this classic attraction.  In 1998, Disney World saw the Tropical Serenade re-open as "The Enchanted Tiki Room, Under New Management."  The new show saw the inclusion of Iago, voiced by Gilbert Gottfried, from the movie Aladdin, and Zazu, voiced by Michael Gough, from The Lion King.

After 13 years of this new version, crowds had diminished and people were clamoring for a return to the original version.  A fire on January 12, 2011 that caused damage to the Iago character provided the impetus for change.  On August 15, 2011 the attraction re-opened in its 3rd version renamed "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room" returned to a version very similar to the original.

Pre-Show Area
As you probably realize Disney World has mastered the art of creating great pre-shows and entertainment to enjoy while you are waiting for your ride or attraction.  The pre-show area serves two purposes the first is to set the stage for the stage for the story that is told during the attraction.  The second is to provide entertainment for the guests to enjoy while they are waiting.

The pre-show at Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room serves both purposes.  The birds give the guests a sense of what they are going to see and the building and surrounding certainly help the guests feel that they have been transported to a Polynesian island.

This family friendly Disney World classic attraction provides entertainment with a multitude of audio animatronic characters that sing and interact during the show.

The stars of the show are four macaws named Pierre, Fritz, Jose, and Michael.  They interact with each other and the numerous birds, flowers, and tiki gods in the room creating a lively musical performance. Although this is no longer state of the art robotics, this show is quite entertaining and will appeal to all age groups.

It is hard to leave this show without singing the songs like the Sherman Brothers classic "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" as you leave the show and throughout your day at Disney World.

Young or old, you will certainly enjoy the simple charm of this Classic Disney World Attraction.
