See Tigers, Bats, & Dragons On The Maharajah Jungle Trek At Disney's Animal Kingdom

The Maharajah Jungle Trek at Disney's Animal Kingdom treats its guests to magnificent views of some amazing animals that are not of the audio-animatronic variety.  There is much to see and take in along this attraction that can be found in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom.

Today we will look at the featured animals of the trek: Tigers, Bats, and Dragons.

Asian Tigers
The Asian Tigers (Panthera Tigris) are the featured animals on the Maharajah Jungle Trek.  These beautiful animals are a powerful force to be respected as they walk around their jungle home.

In the Maharajah Jungle Trek you can find the tigers living in the ruins of what used to be a Sultan's Palace / hunting lodge in the Anandapur Royal  Forest.  The Disney Imagineers have added this bit of irony to the attraction, and showing that in the end nature wins out.
There are three viewing areas from which the tigers can be seen.
Bats and Flying Foxes
The famous Bat Cliffs of Anandapur allow you a close view of Rodrigues Fruit Bats  ( Pteropus rodricensis ) and Malayan Flying Foxes ( Pteropus vampyrus ).

The Flying Foxes are the larger of the two species with wing spans that can reach 6 feet.  They are quite impressive to see up close.

While hanging upside down from branches or vines they use their wings to regulate their comfort by wrapping them closely around themselves for warmth or by fanning them slowly to help cool off.

Despite the fact that part of the Latin name includes "vampyrus" these large flying mammals eat fruits.  They do a great service to the forest as they help pollinate flowers and spread fruit seeds throughout the forest.

Komodo Dragons
The Komodo Dragons (Varanus Komodoensis) are equally impressive to see in person as the tigers or bats.  It is the largest lizard species of the world.  Full grown Komodo Dragons can weigh up to 250 pounds and grow to a length of 10 to 12 feet.

The dragons use their powerful tails to whip their prey and keep their balance.  They also use their long snake-like tongue to pick up scents.

One Of Disney World's Hidden Gems
Although the Maharajah Jungle Trek is an official attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, it is located in the back corner of the park near the exit to the Kali River Rapids.

Many park guests never make it back to that area if they are not riding Kali River Rapids that day and that is a shame, as it is one of Disney World's Hidden Gems.

This self-guided walking exploration of the Anandapur Royal Forest is worth your time.  There is much to notice besides the tigers, bats, and dragons, although those alone are reasons to experience the attraction.

This attraction is part of the dichotemy of the Animal Kingdom Park which has some very intense thrill rides and some extremely enjoyable, slower paced animal viewing and learning experiences.

Definitely make time to check out the Maharajah Jungle Trek during your next Disney World Vacation.
