Fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios - The Rare Disney World Treat
Prior to 2014 fireworks were a very rare treat at Disney's Hollywood Studios, but thanks to Star Wars Weekends and the Frozen Summer Fun events that lasted for most of May through September, guests were treated to fireworks on a much more regular basis.
Fireworks!
When it comes to entertainment and fireworks the folks at Disney World are the masters! For years, Disney World guests have enjoyed nightly fireworks from a number of venues, whether it is Wishes at the Magic Kingdom or Illuminations: Reflections Of Earth at Epcot.Bringing fireworks to Disney's Hollywood Studios is a challenge with the tight streets and lack of a large central viewing area, but the Disney Imagineers have been able to put together a spectacular treat for those that are lucky enough to witness it.
Typically in the past, fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios have been limited to the 4th of July, New Year's Eve, and the rare special event. 2014 brought a welcomed changed and allowed multiple opportunities for guests to witness spectacular fireworks from the confines of Disney's movie themed park.
Witnessing fireworks is a different experience for each Disney World theme park. Wishes at the Magic Kingdom uses Cinderella Castle as the focal point and weaves a story on, above, and around the castle to the astonishment of guests.
Epcot uses the multi-cultural World Showcase as the theme for the spectacular Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. This show that takes place in the center of the World Showcase Lagoon allows guests to line the 1.3 miles of walkway around the lagoon to witness the moving Fireworks, Laser, Water, Fire, and Video show that only Disney could have created.
Hollywood Studios Makes Fireworks Presentation Unique!
At Hollywood Studios, the sight lines are reduced and the crowds are compacted onto Hollywood boulevard as the show takes place in the sky above the giant Sorcerer Mickey hat positioned at the end of the street in front of the recreation of Mann's Chinese Theater that plays host to The Great Movie Ride attraction. This closeness, I believe, adds to the magic of the fireworks here. It makes it hard for large crowds to really enjoy, but the resulting show is amazing. For the two events this year: Star Wars Weekends, and Frozen Summer Fun, Disney added a stage show element that played into the theme of the fireworks. It is all about the storytelling and Disney does this very well. These aren't just random fireworks shot off for their own enjoyment, but rather parts of a story being told that starts on the stage and continues up into the sky and unfolds in front of the awed audience.
If you have the opportunity to witness fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios please take advantage of it. This isn't your typical small town fireworks display, it is part of a magical Disney story that is taking place in the sky that will leave you with memories to cherish long after the show has concluded.
Disney World Announces 'Frozen' Attraction Coming To Epcot
Disney World has officially announced that the Maelstrom attraction in the Epcot Norway Pavilion will be replaced with a 'Frozen' Themed Attraction. They also announced additional opportunities to meet & greet Anna and Elsa from Frozen in Epcot, as well as, a 'Frozen' themed lighting of Cinderella Castle starting in November to turn it into an ice palace.
Check out all of the 'Frozen' themed news reported from the Disney Parks Blog:
We’ve made “Frozen” a part of the guest experience in a number of ways already and our guests have both loved them and asked for more. So I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests. We think these “Frozen” elements are great complements to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.
“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”
We’re extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).
From the moment we screened the film several months before its release, we were inspired by the possibility of bringing this great story to life for our guests. Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! has been extremely popular, and now we’re looking forward to doing even more to allow our guests to experience the “Frozen” phenomenon.

As part of the Frozen Summer Fun limited time event at Disney's Hollywood Studios there is a wonderful stage show called "For The First Time In Forever, A Frozen Sing-A-long Celebration" that should definitely be on your Must Do list for Disney World this Summer!
For The First Time In Forever!
Fans of the Disney animated movie Frozen, know that it is filled with catchy songs that make you want to sing along, so what better way to enjoy Frozen than a chance to sing along with the characters from the movie!Located in the Premier Theater at the back of Disney's Hollywood Studios, this live show is currently being offered an amazing 7 times a day. Recent show times were: 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, & 7:00pm. In order to make it easier to manage crowds, there is an area near the theater where you need to go to obtain (free) tickets for a specific show time. This is totally separate from the FastPass+ system.
The show provides you a chance to see your favorite Frozen characters performing on stage with the help of a pair of comical historians and a wide variety of special effects.
The stage consists of a giant video screen and some props to set the scene in Arendelle. Princess Anna is the first character to start the show.
Anna is joined by a pair of Arendelle's Historians. From here the Historians provide the comic relief and set about to tell the story that so many of us know from the movie Frozen.
As they set the scene, images on the video screen play clips from the movie and serves as the backdrop for the Sing-A-Long. Audience participation is encouraged, so feel free to join in the fun and sing as much as you want!
Special effects really kick into gear as they get to the crowd favorite "Let It Go!" It is hard not to get drawn into the emotion of the song as the crowd really gets into the Sing-A-Long.
Kristoff then makes his appearance. Unfortunately his appearance is without his faithful companion Sven.
Olaf also makes his appearance, albeit via the video screen. His character is adorable and has audiences laughing even when they know what he is going to say!
Ultimately Queen Elsa makes her way to the stage to the delight of the audience.
The show continues with all of the performers now on stage singing among all of the fog and special effects. There is no doubt that Queen Elsa is the star.
As Elsa sings and performs she is certainly commanding the stage and the audience.
