Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom LodgeFor a buffet like no other, you need to experience Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. The experience starts with a visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is arguably the most impressive of all of the Disney World Resorts. It is worth the time to explore this resort and check out the Savannah with the animals.
Boma features African inspired cuisine to match the setting of the resort. As a guest you will be treated to a buffet that has a variety of tastes to sample that will be unlike any restaurant that you would typically encounter.
It starts with a selection of African Breads. Then there are a selection of salads and fruits to temp your palate. Boma is especially known for the soups that are available. There usually are several to choose from and they are wonderful. There are also a number of African vegetable dishes.
The entree items include: Durban Spiced Roasted Chicken, Malabu Pepper Steak, Wood Roasted meats, Bobotie (Lamb and beef quiche with onions, raisins, and bread), Chicken Pepper Pot, Curried Coconut Seafood Stew, Couscous Marrakesh & Grilled Seafood.
It is all topped off with a dessert bar that includes the world famous Zebra Domes and Simba Paw Prints that must be tried.
If you were paying out of pocket to eat here the Adult meal would cost $39.40 and Children would be $19.16. Again this makes a very good use of your Disney Dining Plan Table Service Credit.
Eating dinner at Boma makes for a wonderful evening that is an escape, even within Disney World. You are immersed within this beautiful African setting and can enjoy the surroundings of the resort and then partake in the exotic tastes of the buffet. There are food choices for even the picky eater, but this is really a chance to explore and experience new flavors. This is an absolute must for anyone that has never had the chance to visit Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and a reason to return for those that have visited.
Restaurant Marrakesh at Epcot Morocco

Animal Kingdom Lodge Celebrates 10th Anniversary At Disney World
The Animal Kingdom Lodge celebrates its 10th anniversary. The remarkable Disney World Resort Hotel debuted on April 16, 2001. The Animal Kingdom Lodge redefined the standard for Disney World Resorts as it combined spectacular architecture, authentic African theming, and a Resort with its own Savannah complete with African animals.
Animal Kingdom Lodge
The Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney World is an attraction as much as any that you will find in the Disney World Theme Parks. The experience is breathtaking. From the moment that you set foot in the lobby you will be hooked. Then it only gets better from there.
The Lobby
Everywhere you turn in the Lobby of the Animal Kingdom Lodge you will be amazed. The attention to detail and the theming goes far beyond any earlier Disney World effort. Whether you are looking out the floor to ceiling windows at the rear of the Lobby to see the Savannah (pictured above) or just checking out the authentic artifacts that abound, you will be amazed.
The Restaurants
The Animal Kingdom Lodge gives its guests three great choices to dine. For a casual meal you can visit the Mara for a Disney Quick Service Dining experience that includes some African inspired dishes to try.
If you are looking for a sit down meal for the family look no further than Boma. At Boma you have a buffet full of African inspired meats, vegetables, salads, soups, breads, and desserts. It is unlike any buffet that you have ever been to before, plus it has the theming of the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge is also home to one of Disney World's Signature Restaurants - Jiko - The Cooking Place. Here you will experience an upscale dining experience with an African flair to the dishes. Truly a gourmet dining experience and an excellent place for couple looking for a special night out.
The Savannah
The most unique feature of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is the fact that it has its own Savannah complete with a variety of African animals including Giraffes and Zebras. A large percentage of the Resort Rooms have direct views of the Savannahs, so you can watch the animals from you own private balconies. There are also public viewing areas that are staffed by knowledgeable Disney Cast Members available to answer your questions.
Happy 10th Anniversary!
Happy 10th Anniversary to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is a magnificent resort to stay at, that redefines what a Disney Resort is. There is so much to see and do, you may forget that you are in the middle of Disney World.
Whether you are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or not, you should certainly visit this Disney World masterpiece during your next Disney World Vacation.
Disney World Dining: Sanaa
A Disney World Vacation is not complete without dining at one or more Disney World Restaurants. The restaurants at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge all provide a unique dining experience that is sure to be remembered.
Sanaa
The newest Table Service Restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is located in the new Kidani Village section of the resort. It is called Sanaa which means "work of art" in Swahili is just that. The restaurant is an amazing visual treat with an impressive collection of authentic works of African art. Previously Only WDWorld explored the artwork at Sanaa in an article called: "Touring Sanaa At Disney's Animal Kingdom."
The food at Sanaa is a combination of African and Indian inspired cuisine. Like the other Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurants, Sanaa is a dining experience that is not like your ordinary restaurant in your home town. This is certainly one of the benefits of the Disney Dining Experience.
One of the most popular appetizers at Sanaa is the Indian Bread Service. You can choose three types of bread and three dipping sauces. My family's favorite bread is the Naan bread baked in the special ovens on-site, so we choose to get three portions of this bread and three widely different dipping sauces: Mango Chutney, Red Chile Sambal, & the Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus. This gave us a good variety of sweet and spicy and different textures. This was certainly enough for my family of 4 to share for $8.99.
The dinner menu had entrees priced from $14.99 - $27.99. They accept Disney Dining Plan Table Service Credits and also accept the Tables Of Wonderland Discount.
My wife and son chose the Slow-Cooked Combination meal where you choose 2 different meats and your choice of rice to accompany it.
They both chose the Chicken with Red Curry Sauce and the Shrimp with Green Curry Sauce along with the Five-Grain Rice Pilaf. The meal was well presented and the sauces were very tasty. The level of spices enhanced the food, but did not overwhelm it.
Throughout the restaurant you will find authentic African works of art. Each has a marvelous story behind it. There is a daily tour of the restaurant that allows you to learn more about the artwork and the design of the restaurant itself.
For my entree I opted for the slowed cooked Chicken with Red Curry Sauce and Beef Short Ribs (pictured above). The flavors were very good. The meal was different that what we would see at our normal restaurant stops and the flavors were wonderful. The meats were very tender from the slow cooking process.
My daughter opted for the Tandoori Lamb (pictured above). This is lamb that is cooked in the specially designed Tandoor Ovens. She enjoyed the dinner, although the lamb was very chewy.
Sanaa Dining Experience
The Dining Experience at Sanaa is top notch, although the prices are not. The entree prices are actually low enough that it is not a good value for use of a Disney Dining Plan Table Credit. You would be better off paying cash or using the Tables in Wonderland discount to dine here.
The setting is amazing. Between the artwork, the design of the dining room and the view of the Kidani Village Savannah, this restaurant deserves to be on your list of ones to strongly consider. The meals had flavorful spices, but the were not considered strong. You can ask you server to have the chef increase or decrease the level of spices to your liking.
In conclusion Sanaa gets high marks and is worth visiting during your next Disney World Vacation.
Disney Vacation Club Resort - Kidani Village
One of the newest Disney Vacation Club Resorts is called Kidani Village. It is one of two Disney Vacation Club (DVC) locations at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. While the DVC Jambo House section shares space within the Animal Kingdom Lodge, the DVC Kidani Village is a stand alone part of the resort with its own lobby, pool area, restaurant, DVC member's area, and Disney Transportation Bus Stop.
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Offers Unique Resort Experience
Unique Disney World Resort
The Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Villas at the Walt Disney World Resort present a unique experience to resort guests. Here the lodge is not only themed to bring the feel of Africa, but the resort has its own savannahs to view native African wildlife.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Villas at the Walt Disney World Resort present a unique experience to resort guests. Here the lodge is not only themed to bring the feel of Africa, but the resort has its own savannahs to view native African wildlife.
Many of the rooms at the resort are designated as Savannah View. This means that your room has a balcony with a view of one of the resort's savannahs. The views are breathtaking and it is an wonderful experience to sit with your coffee in the early morning and watch the animals roam around.
Many of the best viewing experiences happy in the early morning as it is still quiet and the animals are more active before the heat of the day sets in. The feeling is almost surreal as you take it all in.
Bringing The African Savannah To Florida
There are over 33 acres of wildilfe preserve for the resort. These are divided into several savannah grassland areas that wrap around the resorts and provide room for the animals to roam.
Some of the 30 species of animals that you may see include:
Ankole Cattle, Bongo, Eland, Grant's Zebra, Impala, Reticulated Giraffe, Thomson's Gazelle, African Spoonbill, Red River Hog, White-Bearded Wildebeest, & Ostrich.
The graceful giraffes are family favorites to watch, as well as, the ostriches.
Great Views Of The Animals For All Guests
One of the great parts of both the main Animal Kingdom Lodge (referred to as Jambo House) and the new Kidani Village is that you do not have to have a savannah view room to have an opportunity to view the animals on the savannahs.
There are great public areas for viewing the animals. At Jambo House they have Arusha Rock, which is an elevated stone platform that provides the opportunity for great close-up views of the animals. Kidani Village has a smaller, but similar viewing area that is pictured below. Often they will have cast members available to answer your questions about the animals.
To make the resort's savannahs more closely resemble the native grasslands of the animals, Disney has planted thousands of indigenous African shrubs and grasses. They have also included the copperpod, which is the most recogized canopy tree of Africa.
The savannahs are accessible for viewing 24 hours a day. The resort staff also has night viewing goggle sessions each evening for a special animal viewing experience.
Memorable Disney World Vacation Experience
Staying at either the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Animal Kingdom Villas creates a memorable vacation experience. This is truly unlike any other resort. The theming and attention to detail is incredible. The ability to view the animals automatically puts a calming, relaxing, feel to your stay.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge can be a vacation destination unto its self. To then realize that you still have all of Disney World left to experience can almost be overwhelming.
This resort is highly recommend for all who are planning a Disney World Vacation to try at least once. The experience is one that you will always remember.
