Jose Feliciano Wows Epcot During Flower Power Concert Series

Jose Feliciano kicked off the 2011 Disney World Flower Power Concert Series at Epcot with an amazing set of performances.  Best known for his version of the Doors' Classic "Light My Fire" for which he earned the 1969 Grammy For Best Male Pop Performance, Jose has been thrilling audiences for over 40 years.

Amazing Performer
At 65 years young, Jose Feliciano has a great voice and is an amazing guitar player.  Admittedly when I went to see Jose's Flower Power Concert I didn't really know what I was getting myself into.  I took along my 14 year old son who's normal musical tastes include Green Day and Linkin Park.  I didn't know much about Jose other than the song "Light My Fire," but we were at Epcot and it was a live concert so we decided to check it out.  We couldn't have been happier.

Jose, who has been blind since birth, has an amazing talent for guitar playing.  This was quite evident early on during his show (he played 3 shows each day on March 4, 5, & 6 and all were different).  My son & I were both mezmerized by his skillful playing.

His sets included songs sung in English and Spanish.  He also included his songs, plus cover songs that the audience would recognize.  Between songs he would talk to the audience and share.

Mid way through the set he switched from acoustic guitar to electric.  He demonstrated that he was equally skilled at both.  During one of the shows that we saw he did an incredible cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" that turned into an electric guitar solo of "The National Anthem" ala Hendrix.  It was incredible.

New Fans For Jose!
Being a frequent visitor of Disney World, I have seen my share of Flower Power and other concerts that were less than impressive.  Jose Feliciano was a concert that I stopped to see on a lark and it turned out to be a highlight of my trip.  Both my son and I came away being so impressed after seeing his show on March 5th that we made a point of catching another show on March 6th.

Jose mentioned that this was his 5th year of playing the Flower Power Concerts at Disney World.  I know now why Disney picked him to kick off the season.  He is an incredible performer and had very enjoyable shows that appealed to his longtime fans and to those who barely recognized his name.  Regardless, thank you Jose for the wonderful performance and you now have 2 new fans!
