Captain EO was a landmark, Sci-Fi musical 17-minute 3-D film experience created for the Disney Parks. It debuted in 1986 when Michael Jackson was at the height of his popularity.
Jackson was not the only star associated with Captain EO. George Lucas was the executive producer. Francis Ford Coppola was the director, and Oscar Winning actress Anjelica Huston starred as the Supreme Commander.
At the time it was created this was the most expensive movie per minute of film ever made. It was created on the heels of Michael Jackson's very successful Thriller video and ran in Epcot from 9/12/86-7/6/94.
At the time it was created the 3D special effects were cutting edge. Now it is appreciated for its nostalgic feel and the tribute to the great talent of Michael Jackson.
Captain EO Returns To Epcot on July 2, 2010
Recently Captain EO returned to Disneyland on February 23, 2010 and now will return to Epcot at Disney World on July 2, 2010.
Although not mentioned in the official Disney Press Release it is anticipated that Captain EO will return to play in its original theater next to the Imagination Pavilion where "Honey I Shunk The Audience" currently plays.

Now you will be able to see Captain EO either for the first time or again in the Disney Parks in its original form.
