This Disney tradition showcasing Christian Music was first held in 1983. The Magic Kingdom played host for the first 25 years of the event, but it transitioned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting in 2008. 134 Christian music acts have played Night of Joy since its inception playing to a combined audience of over one million music lovers.
2009’s Night of Joy will bring together 14 musical acts for the two day contemporary Christian Music festival. Multi-platinum Christian rock band P.O.D. will make its 2009 concert debut. The event also will feature MercyMe, newsboys, Skillet, Flyleaf, Chris Tomlin, Kutless, Jars of Clay, Grits, Leeland, NEEDTOBREATHE, Superchick, Mandisa and Family Force 5.
Although the acts all have lyrics characterized as Christian their musical styles vary including: Adult Contemporary, Rock, Alternative Rock, Progressive Rock, Hard Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, & Contemporary Gospel.
This is a special hard ticket event that will start after regular operating hours in the park. Seven acts will perform each evening between 7 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. at stage locations throughout the park.
